Emerge Attends Hosting Conference

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Verio LogoIn mid-September, Mike and Ed Skimin had the opportunity to attend the Verio Resellers Hosting Conference in Las Vegas. This provided a unique opportunity to meet and talk business and technology with the top leaders in Internet Hosting. Following are a couple of interested highlights.

Influencing Product Development

One-week prior to attending the conference, an Emerge client had a great suggestion on improving their online spam filter. While at the conference, Mike had a chance to sit down with the head of Verio software development and the lead developer of the spam filter software and relay the suggestion. They thought it was a great feature they had never thought of and plan to implement it in the near future.

Lunch with the CEO and COO

On the last day of the conference, Mike and Ed had lunch with Kiyoshi Maeda, Verio’s CEO and Dennis Boyle, Verio’s COO. Maeda previously lead Verio’s parent company NTT’s global strategies division and Boyle was with Verio in 2000 when it was sold to NTT for $5 billion. This provided a unique opportunity to talk about the future of Verio, hosting technology and world affairs.

Conversations with Other Development Firms

The conference was a gathering of companies who use Verio to host their clients’ websites. Many of these companies are similar to Emerge, facing the same opportunities and challenges. While the technical sections provided a great opportunity for Mike to learn about the latest technology, it was the side conversations that Ed enjoyed most. “It was great to meet and talk with other professionals facing the same challenges,” said Ed, “As the value of the Internet continues to grow, we all see so many opportunities.”

What’s Next

Over the last two years, Verio has undergone a massive reorganization to sharpen it’s focus on Web-hosting for small-to-midsize businesses. The conference showed this commitment was genuine. Verio announced a number of new web-based services at the conference including Microsoft Exchange (Business Class Email), McAfee Security and PC Data Backup.

First Federal SavingsWith the growing concern over identity theft and account fraud, First Federal Savings and Loan of Lorain recently worked with Emerge to add security alerts to their website. The alerts provide First Federal an opportunity to keep customers abreast of the latest warnings such as phishing scams and financial related computer viruses.

First Federal staff has a password protected administration area that enables them to add alerts as soon as they are identified. If an alert is particularly serious, it can be displayed in attention grabbing red.

To view the latest security alerts from the First Federal of Lorain website, visit FirstFedLorain.com

LCJVS Launches Job Posting System

Friday, October 5th, 2007

JVS Job PostingsThe Lorain County JVS worked with Emerge to develop a web-based Job Posting System that helps current and former students find the perfect job.

Client Feedback

According to Tina Salyer, Lorain County JVS Career Services/Public Relations Coordinator,

“the on-line jobs database that Emerge designed for the JVS Career Services Office gives thousands of JVS students and alumni instant access to job information that we receive on a daily basis. It also gives our business partners an easy and efficient way to send their job postings to us.”

“Before we implemented this customized system, we relied on “snail mail” to get job postings to our graduates-not a very efficient way to communicate in a timely manner. We had the vision for this process and Emerge made it happen! The best part is we aren’t using someone else’s template; Emerge helped us design a customized web-based system that perfectly addresses our needs. Because of the company’s excellent customer service, there is always someone available to answer questions or tweak the system when the need arises.”

System to be Presented

Tina Salyer will present the Emerge developed Job Posting System at the Ohio Career-Technical School Regional Placement Meeting, held on November 2nd at the Mideast Career Center in Zanesville. Tina will also present the system at the statewide “Spotlight” Conference later in the school year.

Major Features

  • JVS Alumni and students can sign-up to receive email on new jobs posted that meet their area of interest.
  • Registered members can access job postings online.
  • Employers can submit their job opportunities online.
  • JVS staff have the ability to review each job opening before it is released.
  • Archive dates are set for each job posting to ensure only current openings appear on the system.
  • When a job is released, the system sends emails to alumni and students based on their selected areas of interest.
  • The system generates a Job Posting Report that can be hung in the school hallway.
  • The system can export all jobs in Excel format.
  • Statistics are kept on the number of times each job posting is viewed.
  • Job postings can be archived to be efficient re-used in the future.
