There’s Plenty to Do at LakeMetroparks.com

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Emerge worked with the Lake Metroparks recently to expand their reservation system to include the ability to sell tickets for special events online. Patrons can log-on to LakeMetroparks.com and view a list of upcoming events, purchase tickets and print tickets all from the comfort of their home.

Staff members can setup and manage ticket sales through their administration section. Each ticket prints a barcode on it so it can be easily scanned and tracked to make sure the ticket is only used once.

Visit LakeMetroparks.com to learn more about their programs, special events, facilities and parks. While you are there watch a few videos and learn more about Metroparks. There is plenty to do on LakeMetroparks.com!

How Do You Browse?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

IE7 on Windows XP at 1024×768?
Firefox on Vista at 1440×900?
Safari on Mac at 1280 x 960?
Chrome on Windows Vista at 800×600?

As web developers, we pay attention to how users are viewing and interacting with the Internet. Different configurations (web browser, operating system and screen resolution) can impact a user’s experience with a website or web application.

Web Browser - a software application which enables a user to display and interact with text, images, videos, music and other information typically located on a Web page.

Recent statistics show that Internet Explorer (IE6 and IE7) and Firefox dominate the web browser market with 50% and 43% respectively. But, watch out. Google just announced and launched a new web browser called Chrome.

Screen Resolution - refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed on a monitor.

Almost half of all users have their monitors set at 1024 pixels by 768 pixels. Less than 10% are lower, see fewer pixels on the screen and about 40% are higher.

Operating System - is the software component of a computer system that is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the resources of the computer.

Statistics show that Microsoft Windows still dominates the desk top operating system, with over 85% market share. But, there is an increasing number of macs being used.
