Click, Print & Save!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

For their annual meeting on January 22, 2008, the North Coast Chamber of Commerce announced a new way to promote and advertise their business. A coupon section, called ‘Point, Click & Save’ enables members to add coupons on the Chamber site.

The advertising opportunity is designed to enable members to reach other Chamber members and residents of Avon, Avon Lake, Sheffield and Sheffield Lake communities.

Information on promoting your business by adding coupons is available in the North Coast Chamber’s February newsletter.

New Era of Transparency

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

On President Obama’s first day in office, he established new ethics rules that encourage federal agencies to be more transparent. President Obama’s Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies reads in part:

The Government should not keep information confidential merely because public officials might be embarrassed by disclosure, because errors and failures might be revealed, or because of speculative or abstract fears. Nondisclosure should never be based on an effort to protect the personal interests of Government officials at the expense of those they are supposed to serve.

The presumption of disclosure also means that agencies should take affirmative steps to make information public. They should not wait for specific requests from the public. All agencies should use modern technology to inform citizens about what is known and done by their Government. Disclosure should be timely.

In my opinion, this is the beginning of a period in time when transparency will be expected. All organizations, especially government agencies and non-profits should be seeking ways to quickly make available public information. Appearing to cover-up public information could quickly become a public relations nightmare.

LoCAR Property Values Map

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Recently we have been working on a number of projects that use the Internet to help people visualize data, rather than having to read through long tables of numbers on paper.

In December, Emerge worked with the Lorain County Association of Realtors to add a map of Lorain County that visually displays changing home prices. The map shows each city in the County and compares the average sale price of homes that sold in 2007 to the average sale price of homes that sold in 2008.

To view the map, visit MyNewCommunity.net. Please note, this is not home values, but only a comparison of the price of homes that sold.
