Settlers’ Watch in Lorain
August 9th, 2009On Saturday, August 1, 2009, I had the pleasure of attending the Settlers’ Watch dedication on 2nd street in Lorain (story, video).
I was immediately struck by the large gathering. This was a volunteer citizens group beautifying an area where trees needed to be cut down for power lines.

The day before the event, I ran into Loraine Ritchey, one of the neighborhood leaders spearheading the effort. Loraine showed me a copy of the 12-page booklet for the event. Near the back, LorainCounty.com was mentioned twice under the heading ‘Publicity & Coverage, Electronic Media’. In addition to publishing press releases from the group, they also maintain a website about the Charleston Village neighborhood, which is hosted at no cost on LorainCounty.com.
As we’ve discussed here before, Emerge developed the infrastructure of LorainCounty.com and provides technical support for the site.
It is humbling to know that the technology that we helped to develop is being used for such a noble community purpose. We congratulate the group on a great event and the development of an awesome community space.
Update: Local photographer Mark Teleha has uploaded a photographic time line of the Settlers’ Watch project to his blog.
